Introduction to the flows editor

Last update: fredag, dec 20, 2024

The flows editor is where you can tailor the conversational experience your contacts will have with your bot.

It is basically represented by a sequence of steps (Send a "Hello!" message, then ask for the contact's name etc), sometimes being split in multiple branches so your bot can send the appropriate messages depending on the context.

When starting with an empty flow, you will get something like this:

Adding new steps using the step selector

Click on the [+] sign to open the step selector.

Don't know what to choose first? The selector offers a variety steps you can choose depending your needs. If you want, for example, to start by asking your contacts what is their inquiry, then "Send a message followed by buttons" is a great option to start. You will then be able to adapt the next message of your bot based on the answer.

Categories: This step, among all the other steps available on the "Visible step" category, will be directly interacting with your contacts by displaying something on their end. The other categories displayed in blue are internal actions.

Getting more info about a specific step: If you are not sure how to use a specific step correctly, you can find more information by clicking on the (i) button above your step. This button is visible once the step is selected.

How can I edit the texts in my steps

You can edit the text by click on it once the step is selected. There is a full article explaining How to edit and manage your flows texts.

Linking steps together

Link: Each step will have one or more possible outputs. For each output, you can choose to either add a new step like explained above, or to link with an existing step.

Unlink: Deleting links will allow you to insert other step between two steps that are already linked together. Click on it first, then you will see the trash button that will remove the link.

Saving a flow

As soon as you start editing your flow, you will notice a blue Save button appearing on the bottom left corner of the editor. Once your flow is saved, you will be able to use it immediately, whether you want to test it or start showing it to your contacts. For this reason, you will have to make sure your flow follows a few conditions before being able to save it. You won't be able to save your flow if you have left empty texts, or if a branch is missing an "End flow" step for example.

Don't worry though, your changes are saved automatically on your computer in real time, you will be invited to recover your changes even after closing the editor or a power outage.

Moving the flows editor

You have different ways to move visible area of the editor workspace.

  • The most versatile way is to hold and move an empty space of the editor. Doing so with a step will move the step instead.

  • Selecting a step will center this one at the center of the screen, meaning you can select from step to step to move around the workspace.

  • When a step is selected, you can use your arrow keys to select the step directly on the left, on the right, above or under the currently selected step.

  • Once your flow has gotten bigger you will notice a mini map on the top right corner of the screen, showing the current position of the visible area. Clicking anywhere in it will allow you to quickly travel to another area.
